We Shall Overcome 

This piece represents some ideals that women have fought for from 1960’s to the present day. It demonstrates the passion, drive and strength these women have when fighting for their rights, abortion, equality or against violence. These images are all linked so it was important to me to display these images as one unit. The aim of the piece was to contain the essence of a contact sheet /film roll. I wanted it to read like one rather than being one. There is a total of sixty-six images, all depicting feminist protests and the struggles they have encountered. These prints were displayed with an audio in an effort to make the piece more immersive. In August 2012, We Shall Overcome was accepted into the annual RDS Student Awards that commenced the same week as the Dublin Horse Show. Due to space restrictions the entire piece could not be displayed, yet it was an honour to be accepted and to see my piece displayed in a different manner.
